A frozen twist on the classic melon ball drink made with freshly frozen Honeydew, melon liquor, melon vodka, and sweet pineapple juice.
Melon Balls have always been one of my favorite cocktails.
If you've never had one, they're sort of one of those drinks you order when you just turn 21 and haven't quite gotten the taste for vodka tonics, or when you want something fruity and sweet but different from a standard daiquiri or pina colada.
Classic Melon Ball Cocktails
Syrupy sweet and mixed with Midori melon liquor, vodka, orange or pineapple juices, and topped with a maraschino cherry, classic Melon Ball cocktails are an awesome drink to enjoy while sipping on sunset happy hour with your gal pals.
Of course, I can't just post a regular ole drink recipe without giving it a little added oomph, so I zipped it up a notch by creating a frozen take on the classic Midori cocktail by using melon vodka and homemade honeydew melon ice cubes...which are so much simpler than they sound.
How to Freeze Melon Balls
All you have to do is scoop the honeydew melon into balls (or cut into chunks) then follow my super easy and basic tips on how to freeze fruit.
- Cut your honeydew in half then scoop out the seeds.
- Use a melon ball to remove the fruit or cut it from the rind with a knife. Place chunks of fresh honeydew on a non-stick baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Freeze for a minimum of 2-4 hours or overnight.
- Once frozen, make a melonball cocktail right away, or place chunks in a freezer bag or container and freeze for up to 8 months.
Can I make these with ice instead of frozen fruit?
If you're in a rush, you can bypass the frozen honeydew altogether and use ice instead, but I will tell you this: You will be losing out on a mouthful of refreshing flavor. It's a menagerie of melon ball madness that I promise is too good to miss!
If you must use ice, replace the honeydew melon in equal amounts.
