Meet the new love of my life.
Frozen chocolate orange bubble tea!!!!
Can I get a hell yeah? Since we have officially left summer and are heading into fall, I thought this would be the perfect recipe for the transition because it's still hot as a crotch outside so frozen drinks are still welcome, and the colors are totally fall like and remind me of Halloween.
Win, win.
I've always loved the flavors of chocolate and orange together. It brings back a lot of memories.
Growing up, my mom used to always give me and my brother chocolate oranges at Christmas. As the youngest, it was always my duty to wake the household at 6am (ok, 5:30am) on Christmas morning. I'd first pounce on my brother then we'd race to my parent's room and lightly tap on the door hoping it would wake them up. Eventually the knocking would get louder and louder and louder until their snores changed into groans and we'd hear them getting up.
We weren't allowed to go downstairs until my parents were right behind us, so we would have to sit at the top seething with anticipation as my parents got themselves dressed. My mom would come out pretty quickly, but I swear my dad would purposefully take a bajillion years to put his dang clothes on and, when he would finally emerge, he'd smile real big and say, "What? Were y'all waiting on me?"
The second the words were out of his mouth we would scramble down the stairs and then have to wait, again, until my dad made coffee for himself and my mom. You would think that after years and years of having to wait like this on Christmas day that I would be a little bit more patient, ya know?
Not on your life.
The morning would fly by, and opening our stocking stuffers came last. My mom would always wrap each little gift individually and, for the most part, we'd get things that we needed regularly like chapstick or a new toothbrush, fun, small toys like a Gameboy game or a pet rock, Christmas socks and then, stuffed all the way at the bottom of our stocking was our chocolate orange.
I always did a little happy jig when I got to that point. I would rip off the wrapping, toss the box aside and gently pull off the delicate tin foil the chocolates were enveloped in. Then I would break off a slice and savor it slowly letting the velvety candy melt in my mouth.
Another reason I love chocolate orange is because of jaffa cakes which are these insanely delicious little cookie cake thingys that you can get in Scotland and specialty international grocery stores. If you've never had them, try them.
I promise you won't be disappointed.
Now on to bubble tea.
When I went home a few weeks ago, I met up with Twin for lunch. When we first made plans, I told her I wanted to go to Single Smile Cafe because, at the time, it was the only restaurant in town that served bubble tea.
Twin was disgusted with going to the place for two reasons: 1. Apparently she loathes bubble tea and the texture of boba pearls make her want to hurl and 2. the owner of the cafe was super rude to her and her mom group and she hadn't stepped foot in the cafe since. If she had told me the latter before I had actually ordered my drink I probably wouldn't have even gone, but fate has a way of working y'all and, can I just tell you, looking up at their menu and seeing the first flavor of bubble tea was chocolate orange?
Yep. Deft fate.
After waiting a 1,000+ years for my drink (the service their is subpar at best) I was shocked when I saw that it was frozen. I'm not even close to a bubble tea connoisseur so I didn't have a clue that you could even get them frozen. Did y'all know that was possible?
The first sip of my frozen chocolate orange bubble tea sent me straight to my childhood Christmas and totally made up for the long wait. All I could say was "Yum!" and "OMG! This is so damn good." over and over and over again as I drank it. It was so tasty I almost turned around to order another so I could chain drink those bitches.
But, since this restaurant was stupid rude to one of my best friends, I will never step foot in it again. Lucky for me, I love to recreate recipes, and I got to work right away so I could shove another one in my face as soon as possible...and share it with you too.

Yum! I used to work at a bubble tea stand in the mall, so I would be making bubble tea practically every day. But I have never made it at home. This looks amazing!
