Hello, my name is Amber, and I am a chocoholic.
And not just any chocoholic…I’m a DARK chocolate chocoholic.
I would eat dark chocolate (or any chocolate for that matter) for every meal of the day if I could, and if I don’t have chocolate at least once a day, my poor husband will feel my wrath in the form of a snide attitude or a full blown toddler-esque temper tantrum.
Thanks to this recipe, I can not only eat it for breakfast or after a workout if I wanted to, but I can do so without feeling guilty about it and at the same time satiate my sweet teeth.
A to the men.
Chock-full of fresh fruits & veggies, chia seeds, dark chocolate, and with no added sugars, this shake is sure to please the kid in all of us.
Funny fact, I can’t stand the chocolate covered maraschino cherries that come in a box and are enveloped by that white goop and crappy chocolate shell.
And when I was little my dad either refused to ignore that fact, or he chose to ignore it so he had an excuse to eat the nasty little things himself.
I swear every Valentine’s Day, birthday, Mother’s Day, or government issued holiday that required candy giving, my dad would come home and hand me a box of chocolate covered cherries. When I was really little (and not a deranged, demon possessed teenager), I would graciously accept the sweet gesture of my father and thank him kindly for the box of treats. I would then take one out, swallow it back as quickly as I could, and then leave the remainder of the box sitting on the kitchen counter.
Slowly but surely and lo and behold, those babies would surely enough disappear and by week’s end, the box would be completely gone.
Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m POSITIVE my dad bought them for himself!
You know what else is sneaky?
Giving one of these to your kids and pretending like it’s a naughty treat when in fact it has a full cup of frozen spinach in it and packs 6 grams of fiber and 11 grams of protein per serving!
If I was a bettin’ woman, I’d bet you
a bajillion 5 dollars that your kids will never know they are slurping up something good for them!
You can thank me later
Also, if your kids are like me, then fresh cherries are their best friends! I friggin’ love them and could easily eat them by the pound. When I go to the grocery store in the summertime, my already stupidly expensive grocery bill is even more stupidly expensive b/c I’ve got about 15 lbs of cherries in my cart.
And, at $455,000 a lb, it’s impossible to not spend a fortune.
Plus, who in their right mind is actually going to go to the store and only buy a lb of cherries?!? I mean, is that even legal?!?
If it is, it shouldn’t be.
Cherries are too good for you and are intended to be consumed by the ton.
If not, then why do they put so many in one dang bag?
Uh, huh…that’s what I thought
I’m not one to use protein powders (it’s not that I have anything against them, I’ve just never seen the need for them) so I like to up the protein factor by throwing in a touch of greek yogurt (I’m also a Chobani-aholic). It just adds a creaminess to the smoothie that I believe can’t be beat.
I’ve never had Chobani’s black cherry flavor, but I’m sure it would be awesome in this recipe so if anyone tries it, please let me know!
Now…if only we could get them to make a chocolate flavored yogurt, we’d be set!
Getting to know you…
What’s your favorite yogurt flavor?
Are cherries expensive in your part of the world?
